How We Hire

This page explains, in plain English, how we assess applications for support worker and cleaner roles at Goodfellow Support Services Ltd — including the part AI plays in that process, and the part it never plays.

The steps

  1. You apply online, telling us about your experience, availability, and right to work.
  2. We may use AI to help review your application (see below) — this is a screening aid, not a decision.
  3. A person on our team reviews your application and decides whether to invite you to interview.
  4. If we'd like to go ahead, we carry out our vetting checks (see below).
  5. We make you an offer once vetting is complete.

How AI-assisted screening works

We may use an AI tool to help our team review applications more consistently. Where it's used, here's exactly what happens:

  • The AI is given the role's stated requirements (skills, experience, and availability) and your own answers about your experience, availability, and right to work — never your name, email, or phone number.
  • The AI produces a score against the role's stated requirements, a list of strengths and gaps, and some suggested interview questions — nothing more.
  • The AI never makes a hiring decision, and never rejects an application. A person on our team always makes the actual decision, and is responsible for it.
  • The AI is explicitly instructed to never consider, infer, or comment on age, sex, race, nationality (beyond your right-to-work answer), religion, disability, health, pregnancy, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected under the Equality Act 2010 — even if that information appears in your CV. If any of that content appears, the AI is instructed to ignore it entirely.
  • You consent to this AI-assisted step when you submit your application.

Vetting checks

Before we confirm an offer, we carry out the checks relevant to the role, which may include:

  • Confirming your right to work in the UK
  • An enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check
  • Taking up two references
  • Verifying your identity
  • Checking a driving licence, where the role requires driving

We record the outcome of each check (verified, pending, or failed), who checked it, and when — we do not store the contents or number of any certificate.

Questions

If you have questions about how we assess applications, or want to know more about a decision made about your own application, contact us at yourcare@goodfellowsupportservices.co.uk.

[TODO_LEGAL_REVIEW]: this page describes our actual process as built — it hasn't yet been through a compliance sign-off pass.
